New Revlon Moon Candy Nail Polish Review

Today I was snooping around Walgreens looking for any Sinful Colors I had missed a couple weeks ago when they were on sale for 99c each. This week they are 4/$5 with 1000 points back on a $5 purchase. But it looks like I either had everything they did or they didn’t get any new displays in, so I just kept shopping.

I walked past the Revlon display and saw all the Moon Candy which look like they might be on a permanent display. But something looked amiss. If you recall back in July 2012 when they were first issued I had purchased them and put up some of the first swatches here. At that time there were 8 in the collection, but there had always been mention of additional ones being released later in the year. However I never saw any fanfare from any other bloggers or in my nail polish groups, so I just assumed it never happened. But apparently it did, because this display had 10 polishes in it and 2 were definitely not ones I had gotten before. Oh how I loved my iPhone at that moment as I pulled it out and pulled up that original post to see which ones were added.

The two colors I didn’t have were Eclipse, a beautiful pink with purple flakies and a burgundy base.

And Meteor, a mint green with shamrock green and gold flakes and a dark olive drab base.

Both base formulas applied easily. I used 2 coats before applying a single coat of the flakies. Eclipse didn’t seem to pick up as much flakie as I’d like but the purple flakes are beautiful. On the other hand, Meteor soaked up loads of green and gold flakes. But I wanted to experiment as I had naked nails to play on. So I applied the burgundy base on my pinkie and middle fingers, and the green base on my ring and index fingers. I then applied Eclipse on my pinkie and ring fingers, and Meteor on my middle and index fingers.

And just for the heck of it I applied 2 coats of the dark green base to my thumb and applied 1 coat of Sinful Colors Green Ocean over it for comparison. I’ve heard a lot of people say Green Ocean is gloppy and icky. But I gotta tell you both of my bottles (which were received as gifts a year ago) apply just fine and are really dense! And BLUE! All my pictures are taken with my iPhone 4S and colors are only as accurate as it can capture. Also monitors might show colors in slightly different degrees.

OK but here’s the clincher. I didn’t buy the Revlons at Walgreen. They weren’t having any sales and I didn’t want to spend $10 on those little 1/4 oz bottles! So I stopped at CVS and not only did they also have the display, but when I scanned my Reward card I got a $3 coupon off $10 of Revlon products. But wait, there’s more! The Moon Candy are on Bogo 50% this week at CVS. But wait, there’s even more! There were $1 Revlon coupons on the front Revlon display so I grabbed 2 of them and used them as well, which got me one polish for free after all the discounts had been taken!

I’m just a sucker for flakies, holos and duos, and I rarely pass any of them. Although the Revlons aren’t as dense and the bottles aren’t anywhere near as large as most of my polishes, I’m still glad I’ve got them in my collection. And whenever I wear them I do get plenty of compliments. So if you’re looking to add to your Revlon Moon Candy collection and you have a CVS or a friend with one, get your hands on them before midnight Saturday!

Do you have any of these and how do you like them?

🙂

My Secret Bunny Loves Me!

I am in a Facebook group that did a Secret Bunny swap (like Secret Santa). I already have so many polishes that I couldn’t think of a whole lot that I needed. I really got into the swap so I could gift some things and fill some lemmings that another might have. But as fate would have it, the wonderful gal that got me knows how much of an animal lover I am, and is one herself. We both have cats and we’ve talked to each other about how much joy they bring to our lives and what excellent companions they are.

One of our cats, Sgt Joe Friday

The organizer of the swap got us all to join elfster.com. It’s a pretty cool site that you can input things you want for gifts and your family and friends can look at it and get you stuff you actually want on your birthday and holidays! LOL I entered that I didn’t need anything, and to please make a donation in my name to your favorite pet charity.

What's in the bag? There's some bubblewrap!

There's some bubblewrap!

When I got my swap package it is was nice and compact. So I was thinking to myself, Yes, she didn’t get me a bunch of stuff. When I opened it there was one of my favorite things ` CHOCOLATE! Haha, I think that she had asked me a question about my snacking and I said I love chocolate, actually milk chocolate. She did a fine job of filling up the bag with some real winners including Lindt and M&Ms. Yummmm But there was even more goodness in that swap bag! Some very nice Milani polishes that I didn’t have, and Sinful Colors Green Ocean, which I’ve been lusting after for over two years! Why has it never made it to Fort Lauderdale? I guess I lamented about it enough because she knew I wanted it and sure enough, I now own my very own bottle!

Oooooo pretty polishes!!

So yes I did very well from my Secret Bunny. But there was one more thing I was to find. When I opened the adorable card, there inside was a note thanking her for the donation to Cat’s Cradle pet rescue. I was bawling by the time I got done reading the note! She touched my heart and made me so happy for doing that. Our four cats are all rescues, so I know how much the shelters need revenue. They certainly need it more than I need a dozen new polishes! I want to thank my friend and Secret Bunny Michele for being such a sweet soul and giving, what I expect knowing her, was a very generous donation to them. And also to let you know that yes, I’ve eaten most of the chocolate WITHOUT sharing it! hahaha And I’m going to be wearing one of my new polishes this week for Easter! YAY

So what do you think about how very special my Secret Bunny swap haul was?

Foie Gras to Mardi Gras, It’s All Debauchery

I love Fat Tuesday. If you’ve ever been to New Orleans for Mardi Gras or the Islands for Carnivale, you’ll understand. The costumes. The colors. The floats. The beads. The parades. The people. The parties. It’s really fun. It’s really colorful. It’s really crazy. Of course the meaning behind it is all religious, but be in one of the famous carnival cities leading up to and during the celebrations, and you won’t care what the reason behind all the raunchiness is, you’ll just know you want to go back again and again!

So in honor of Mardi Gras, I’ve got a cute little mani I did last night. I admit. I did steal the idea. But I put my own spin on it. I talked with Danielle, because as great as her idea looked, I was worried about the goopiness factor of the glitter. She said that yes indeed it was a little thick. She wasn’t kidding! So I’m including her picture on the left and mine on the right and explaining the differences.  For those that know me they KNOW my FAVE colors are purple and green so of course Mardi Gras colors are my favorite colors.

Danielle used Milani Gold Lame as her base coat and topped it with the Color Club Scent-sous Sugar Plum Yum that came out around Christmas. I told her how much I liked these polishes together. She said that irl the gold polish crinkled up under the CC glitter. Gasp! But it still looks really good to me! Idk if she used base coats or top coats.

For my mani I used a base coat of Zoya Anchor. My color base coat is one coat of Sinful Colors This Is It. After drying I put on a coat of SC Frenzy. After drying I applied a coat of SC Call You Later. After letting that all dry I coated with one application of CC Sugar Plum Yum. I tried carefully using the glitter so I could get it over the entire nail and not in little clumps. That was a bit of a challenge. Some places are definitely more dense than others. My final coat is Zoya Armor. I ended up putting two coats of that on. I didn’t use Gelous in between because I didn’t feel these glitters were too bad and didn’t require that extra coat of glitter tamer. I like the little bits of small glitter showing through the big pieces of glitter. What do you think about the two looks of this very similar mani?

class mardi

Since I had a training class today I wanted to enjoy some fun with them for Mardi Gras. So I took a bunch of beads that I bought at Dollar Tree and before we started I threw them out to the group. It was a lot of fun since we spent the first half hour dancing for our cardio and everyone was laughing and happy about getting their beads. I always hand out a small token for each holiday. Last week for Valentine’s Day they got cute little hearts with mazes in them and a little bb that you had to move through the maze. Since most of them are in the group to watch their weight, I don’t usually hand out candy and they really appreciate that I don’t sabotage what they are there for! See the beads on the floor? And maybe you can see some of them still have them on while doing crunches before class ended. I like my fitness classes and training groups to have fun with their workouts. It makes it that much easier to keep up their goals of exercising and getting/staying healthy!

We finished up tonight in a very un-Mardi Gras type restaurant and went to one of our favorite Chinese places. Mom and I were probably a sight with our Mardi Gras beads and colors! I hope you had fun today (and tonight), too. So what did you do to celebrate this last day before Lent, and do you practice this religious tradition?
