Did You Know You Really Do Use Scotch Tape?

Last week I posted about a facebook group I’m in doing a weekly mani now, with links to all those that participated. This week’s challenge was to do a “Tape Mani”. I keep seeing all their eBay buys for the skinny little tapes and I’ve never done a tape mani, so I jokingly asked if I could use Scotch tape. Jeez, I didn’t know that’s what they all were using when they talk about it! Smile

Since I don’t usually have the time to go all out on manis I thought it would be fun to do these if I could do them quickly and not really worry about how great they looked or how long I’d wear them beyond picture taking for the blog. But like last week’s Water Marble Mani, this one was quite fun and actually much easier to do!

I had to read up a little on them, there are tons of YouTube vids and blog posts on how to do it. Basically what I learned is make sure your base mani is at least a day old so you don’t pull it off when you remove the tape. Other than that, your imagination is the limit! There shouldn’t be any polish you can’t use. I’ve seen them over holos, under holos, glittered, creamed, shimmered, and any other finish you can find. Use regular straight edged scissors, curved/design-blade craft scissors, hole reinforcements, blue painters tape, pretty much anything that will stick to your nails that you can paint around/over and peel off!

I started with my base which in this case was a couple day old mani of SoFlaJo Tequila Sunrise and Pink Lady, with Wilde Irish Rose as the top layer. Yeah I know, weird combo, but I was just experimenting with combos of my polishes and that’s the one I still had on. It was actually very delicate looking! So on my left hand I cut the tape lengthwise in half and striped horizontially with Pink Lady and Shirley Temple. The right hand I cut the tape in thirds and striped vertically with Blue Martini and Golden Cadillac. Yeah they turned out ok. I did wear them for another couple of days. You can see with the left hand with the reds I didn’t tape it tight enough and some of the polish ran under the tape. I did get a bit better on the right hand and it didn’t bleed much under the tape.

Tape manis can be really simple like mine, or very intricate like some of the girls in the link below. Would you try one? Don’t be afraid. This is a LOT easier than water marbling. So what do you think our challenge will be next week? And btw, another group I’m in now wants to do a weekly nail challenge. So maybe I’ll get better at all these techniques. Wish me luck!

LMAO My First Water Marble!

OMG! I’m in a group on Facebook that wanted to have a Water Marble Monday blog today, so of course I thought, why not? I’ve always wanted to try it. Well, Idk if I’ll be trying it again. What a funny and fun time I had, tho. I first tried using polishes that were too shimmery and glittery. Altho they looked great in the water dispersing like they do, they don’t make for a good water marble. At least not till I’m better at it and know what I’m doing. I read a lot of blogs and watched a lot of vids trying to figure out my best plan of attack. I saw China Glaze, Zoya, and Sally Hansen among others mentioned as being good choices. Since I figured I’d be making a mess (and I did), I went with my cheapest option – Sally Hansen. Below are my photos. Please feel free to join me in LMAO!!

I started off here with Shirley Temple from my new Happy Hour Collection.

Then that beautiful little girl met the Monster! hahaha

One suggestion I liked and did was to put cuticle oil on my finger up to my first knuckle and under my nail. It was a quick swipe so it used very little product. I also had a small alcohol wipe I used to wipe each nail just before I took the plunge. The cuticle oil works great! I was able to wipe the polish off with a cotton pad quite easily. The fingers that still have polish on them are ones I didn’t get to fast enough, but the polish came off really quickly with my fave Zoya Remove+. Another tip I learned after I did it is to also put a dab of oil on the stir stick (I used a toothpick). That would probably help IMO!

And the final picture is my Helmer drawer full of Sally Hansen’s I have to chose from!

OK so now that you’ve seen that I can do it, I did get better by the end with my thumb, what do ya think? Would you try it? You know you want to! DO IT!! Smile And here are the group’s Water Marbles!

Kids with Disabilities Polish/Makeup Charity Drive

Many of you may follow Megan’s blog Painting Rainbows. She is doing an internship right now working with children with disabilities. I’ve known Megan for quite some time and this is a subject that is dear to my heart. Growing up, my best girlfriend’s older brother was severely disabled and I know how much heartache and hardship the family went through. It was a real eye opener as a little kid to be around this and because of it I have a very big soft spot for wanting to help Megan out. I asked her if I could also send Makeup and she lit up telling me that they do indeed want NEW only Makeup for prom that is coming up. The polishes can be used but please make sure you send only new makeup if you plan to include that, too.

306640_3649995449977_1277214035_3593151_980716502_n

I have a lot of used polishes that I won’t use. So I sent all of them. I also have a lot of new Nick’s Sticks that I thought would be good for the kids that could handle them could use to paint their own nails. Again Megan lit up when she found out I was sending those and new Sally Hansen Chrome Pens. She said they could use an adapter so that the kids could handle them and use them themselves. How awesome! I also sent a lot of eyeshadows that I had which hadn’t been used (I’m a sucker for eye makeup).

I ended up using two of the USPS priority padded envelopes. It was cheaper doing that then sending a medium rate box! I also taped the envelopes up really well. One time I sent a padded envelope to someone and all the polish was gone but all the candy and note was there. So to avoid that from now on I always TAPE TAPE TAPE!!! LOL

If you would like to send packages to Megan, you can click here to go directly to her blog, or you can email her at itsrainingstars13@hotmail.com  to contact her about the polish you want to send and get her address. Please do not send the polish to me! LOL

OK, there you have it! Doing a good deed and getting rid of polishes you won’t use! What’s better than that?!

Love that International Swap!

IMG_4800new

I was involved with two international swaps last month and they were both so amazing! One was from Brazil (oolala) and the other was from the UK (yummy). Both ladies are super super super(!) sweet and are two of the best swappers I’ve ever met. Even though I sent what they asked for I feel that my boxes to them were so inadequatre compared to what I received from them! I’m waiting to hear back from both of them because I cannot believe that my boxes didn’t get to them yet. In both swaps we each shipped to each other on the same day. I just hope they are as happy with what they got as I am with what I got. If they aren’t, trust me I have no problem sending them moar! LOL

IMG_4795new  IMG_4797new  IMG_4788new  IMG_4789new  IMG_4794new

So from Alice in the UK, and what started our whole swap was that awesome Max Factor Fantasy Fire! When I asked her what she would like and sent her my swap list, she said “All of it” (haha not quite), so I had to get busy finding other things I’d like to get from her. Since I’m not extremely familiar with UK brands except the MF, Gosh and Models Own, she gave me some ideas and what great ones they were! I also got MF Graffiti, Blue Odyssey, and Moon Dust; Models Own Gold Rush and Mixed Up; 17 Fury, Revenge, Sulk; Gosh Purple Heart, and she gifted me with George U the Sea and MUA Shade 10. Everything is so rich and gorgeous looking. From looking at all this it’s pretty obvious I’m not really into cremes! Yes the Max Factor are little, you can see all four of them in my hand.

IMG_0018new    IMG_0020new IMG_0023new    IMG_0021new

My swap from Brazil was already predetermined on the Hits! Heck yeah I knew I wanted some of those after seeing everybody’s beautiful swatches all over the internet! Glitter Forte, Unconventional, Artsy, Cutie Pie, Hestia, Apolo, Dionisio, Hefesto, Atena, and Zeus. What a gorgeous selection of polishes they are! But wait, there’s more! Ludurana Aurora Boreal; Rivka Carrie and Ellen Gold Cinza Chumbo (I love that name!), Prata, Roxo, Vermelho, and Rosa. She also got me 2 lovely bracelets, a convertible shopping bag and since I already carry several on my purse you’d think she read my mind! Carolina also gave me darling little note cards, emery boards (with cats and cheeta prints), and the neatest stamping plate with hearts, cats, teddys, dogs, bunnies, and other cute symbols on it.

These girls really made my collections come alive! I don’t know that I’m really a person with lots of lemmings, but if I was, they certainly filled those spots! And I also got a bottle of Savvy polish (from Sally’s) that my good friend Jane gave me when we went out to dinner the other night. She said, Well it was purple and all the Savvy are now 99c, so I bought them for you, my daughters, myself. Hmmmm Jody, now I’m starting to sound like you! LOL Yep, we converted another one ladies! Welcome to our Polish Kingdom, right?

IMG_0016new

All of the international polishes were pretty small actually! The smallest were the Max Factor which are 4.5ml. The rest ranged in size from 6ml for The Hits, MUA, and maybe George to 8ml for 17, Ludurana, and Gosh. The largest were the Rivka at 10ml, Ellen Gold at 12ml, and Models Own at 14ml.

So what swaps have you done lately? For a couple of international ones (I have done two with Australia previously – oh yeah – Glitter Gals and Ozotics), I am really beyond words at how gorgeous their polishes are. Who is with me in thinking US makers need to step up their game?

My Secret Bunny Loves Me!

I am in a Facebook group that did a Secret Bunny swap (like Secret Santa). I already have so many polishes that I couldn’t think of a whole lot that I needed. I really got into the swap so I could gift some things and fill some lemmings that another might have. But as fate would have it, the wonderful gal that got me knows how much of an animal lover I am, and is one herself. We both have cats and we’ve talked to each other about how much joy they bring to our lives and what excellent companions they are.

One of our cats, Sgt Joe Friday

The organizer of the swap got us all to join elfster.com. It’s a pretty cool site that you can input things you want for gifts and your family and friends can look at it and get you stuff you actually want on your birthday and holidays! LOL I entered that I didn’t need anything, and to please make a donation in my name to your favorite pet charity.

What's in the bag? There's some bubblewrap!

There's some bubblewrap!

When I got my swap package it is was nice and compact. So I was thinking to myself, Yes, she didn’t get me a bunch of stuff. When I opened it there was one of my favorite things ` CHOCOLATE! Haha, I think that she had asked me a question about my snacking and I said I love chocolate, actually milk chocolate. She did a fine job of filling up the bag with some real winners including Lindt and M&Ms. Yummmm But there was even more goodness in that swap bag! Some very nice Milani polishes that I didn’t have, and Sinful Colors Green Ocean, which I’ve been lusting after for over two years! Why has it never made it to Fort Lauderdale? I guess I lamented about it enough because she knew I wanted it and sure enough, I now own my very own bottle!

Oooooo pretty polishes!!

So yes I did very well from my Secret Bunny. But there was one more thing I was to find. When I opened the adorable card, there inside was a note thanking her for the donation to Cat’s Cradle pet rescue. I was bawling by the time I got done reading the note! She touched my heart and made me so happy for doing that. Our four cats are all rescues, so I know how much the shelters need revenue. They certainly need it more than I need a dozen new polishes! I want to thank my friend and Secret Bunny Michele for being such a sweet soul and giving, what I expect knowing her, was a very generous donation to them. And also to let you know that yes, I’ve eaten most of the chocolate WITHOUT sharing it! hahaha And I’m going to be wearing one of my new polishes this week for Easter! YAY

So what do you think about how very special my Secret Bunny swap haul was?

MyGlam Glam Bag for March

So I got the March MyGlam Glam Bag, and after three months of receiving them, I’m just not feeling it. I know it’s just $10 and it includes both full and sample sizes, but I can see the full sizes going by the wayside pretty quickly. And so far there really hasn’t been anything I’ve received that I would go right out and buy.

The past two months included samples from: Premier Dead Sea who I’ve seen in kiosks at the mall and gotten a “facial” from them. They use heavy selling tactics and their products are way too pricey. The Keracolor Leave-In Treatment left my long hair sticky feeling. Many other samples were very tiny and hardly able to be used for a single use.

IMG_4727

The full size products have included two masks from Freeman. The Contour Brush is nice, but I have dozens of brushes already and didn’t find theirs to be the end-all they claim. And I’m not sure if the Murad Bronzing Boost is full size or not because it is really small!

Also, I don’t really need the little bags they send. So the $10 might have sounded like a great deal at the time, but for me the appeal is just not there. Are you still receiving your MyGlam or have you moved on to another beauty subscription service?

Seems like Nail Polish is everywhere right now. And that’s not a bad thing after all, is it? Here are just a few of the ads I’ve seen in my own magazine subscriptions over the last couple of months. I still see them but I’ve stopped taking pix since now it seems like I’m seeing them everyday!

SoFlaJo Blog Designer Kudos

I have to tell you I am SOOOO in love with my blog design. My friend Jamie from Nails Adored is the designer. I give her all the credit for working with me to give me exactly what I was looking for! I can’t tell you how happy I am with the results! From the Dragon graphic, which is painted on my Harley tanks, to the ghost image on the right side of my banner of my actual bike. I chose the font God of War and she made it MINE with that map grid behind it!

Jamie is a real sweetheart and extremely talented. She designed my blog and my graphics. I have done blogs before and coming up with all the things that make it your own is so much work. She did it lightening fast and was waiting on me, not the other way around. She “works for polish” OMG, how cool is that? Well, I didn’t want to slight her for her awesome work. And I had some of those fantastic bloom.com vouchers I had purchased from several deal sites. When I asked her what she wanted she said with NO HESITATION the OPI Holland collection! Hey, I could agree with her there! I’m such an OPI fiend, too. I knew she also longed for OPI Ink and I picked up one of those in my jaunts around town. I also sent her some other polish goodies, including my complete SoFlaJo Year of the Dragon Polish Collection, which she reviewed here on her site. I also sent her fun stuff for her kids so they would have fun opening up her nail mail with her. Here’s a pic of the OPI collection that bloom sent directly to her.

And she JUST is in the process or reviewing my new Spring Polish Collection

Do you think she did a good job with my blog? Did I pay her enough, I know how much internet designers can get for their work. Are you looking for a revamp of your blog or website? I think the best advertising is a happy customer, and I truly am! Thank you Jamie, many times over!

Zoya LE NYFW Boxes

Yes. I succumbed. I couldn’t help it. It was the fault of my friend Katie. I didn’t think I needed the new Zoya LE Boxes for New York Fashion Week. She made me think otherwise! LOL When she posted pix of the Peter Som Box and said how much the green was different than any she’d ever seen, I knew I was in trouble. If she hadn’t seen it and didn’t have it in her collection, it was a good bet I hadn’t and didn’t either! I have at least 100 Zoyas. Don’t make me go upstairs in my polish area, pull out the overflowing Helmer and count them all. Suffice it to say they fill an entire drawer and also go into another drawer! Ack! HOW did that happen?!?! Aren’t I the OPI lover?

But not one to leave well enough alone, I figured if I was buying one NYFW LE Box I had to have the other. Like a set of matching book ends, dontcha know?! So I also have the Bibhu Mohapatra Box. Since I was late to the party, I wasn’t able to buy them directly from Zoya. I bought them on eBay from a seller who was charging the same $24 price that Zoya charged, so she was probably an authorized dealer. That’s good because I’m not fond of eBay scalpers or bidder stupidity (lemming mentality). She also gave me discounted shipping and after ordering over the weekend, they arrived Tuesday, even with a postal holiday yesterday. She also included a couple of beauty samples. Idk if there will be any of the LE Boxes left by the time you read this, but she has a nice selection of beauty items in her store you might enjoy. Check her out at THIS LINK.

OK, now here’s the kicker. You’ve seen the names of the bottles in the Peter Som collection haven’t you? Evvie, Audrey, Katherine. Katherine? Is that right? That’s what it says on the Zoya Page doesn’t it? BUT, what does your bottle label say? Mine is Katharine. Katie was quick to contact Zoya for an explanation for this. They sent her a new sticker with the Katherine spelling! Should I or shouldn’t I? 🙂

zoya le

Did you buy the NYFW LE Boxes? Do you plan on doing it, if you can still find them at a reasonable price? Will you actually use them once you get them? That’s always my biggest problem. Now that I have a true collector’s item, do I dare use it? What will you do?

Win Year of the Dragon Polish in Nail Network Giveaway

I have to say blog followers are awesome. All of you! A couple weeks ago my friend Chelsea from The Nail Network was so close to 600 followers and she was hoping to hit that magic number so she could have a giveaway. Since I knew her prize was TWO of the new color changing polishes from my Year of the Dragon collection, I did a quick little blog asking if we couldn’t reach that number and get the party started. WHOA did y’all ever respond!

The Nail Network is now nearing the 700 mark! And with just days left in her giveaway, I bet the numbers just keep on growing. She is giving away BOTH The Conjuror AND Pendragon to ONE lucky winner! You can see swatches on my shop page.

Come to Mama Zoya, OPI, CND

Haha, that title sounds funny. I could tell you that when I get my new nail polishes I just scoop them up in my arms and bury my face in them. Would you believe that? Do you do that? Haha, I have to say, I don’t quite do that, I do that with my 4 Kittehs, not my polishes, regardless of how much I love and enjoy them!

I did get some fun polishes last week from a couple of my bloom.com vouchers that I bought in December from various deal sites. When you come across them I say Jump on em. Hell Yeahs! I bought them for one half the value of the products on bloom and shipping was included. I did end up having to ante up another dollar or two on the orders, but I’m very happy with what I got.

First, here’s a picture of the two bloom boxes. I thought they were so clever!

bloom voucher1

And now what I got!

Obviously you see that cute little Holland mini collex. I can’t wait to try them. I love the minis and buy them if I don’t plan on buying the whole collex and they’re different from the regular size bottles I’m planning on getting. The two regular Holland collex I got were the purples. Hey, don’t judge me. Everybody has their favorite color! LOL I got Dutch ‘Ya Just Love OPI? and Vampsterdam. That other OPI is You Don’t Know Jacques. I have all the suedes and had all their mates except this one. NOW my collex is complete! The two CND Sparkes are Jade and Crimson. I already have Sapphire and Amethyst. I’ve been told Copper is amazing, too. Next time! And last but not least I got the Zoya Flecks collection – Chloe, Opal, and Maisie. I had resisted, but getting them for half price can change a girl’s mind pretty quickly. And we are entitled to change our minds, right? And I really like that name Maisie! Then of course there were the samples. I’ve used all of them. NOT FAIR! Now I want to buy some of those products, too!

So how did I do? Is my haul one that you would have chosen, too? Are you out there googling those deal sites looking for bloom vouchers right now? I AM!!!

The Traveling Nail Polish Heads Around the Globe

Hey girls, guys, bloggers, non-bloggers! We have a new group on facebook called The Traveling Polish. Our goal is to have 100 people join and snap pictures of their mani (or pedi, why not?) with the polish, include a local postcard, and send it to the next member on the list. This sounds like lots of fun. With so much imagination out there I can only dream of what some of these manis and the backdrops will look like!

Foie Gras to Mardi Gras, It’s All Debauchery

I love Fat Tuesday. If you’ve ever been to New Orleans for Mardi Gras or the Islands for Carnivale, you’ll understand. The costumes. The colors. The floats. The beads. The parades. The people. The parties. It’s really fun. It’s really colorful. It’s really crazy. Of course the meaning behind it is all religious, but be in one of the famous carnival cities leading up to and during the celebrations, and you won’t care what the reason behind all the raunchiness is, you’ll just know you want to go back again and again!

So in honor of Mardi Gras, I’ve got a cute little mani I did last night. I admit. I did steal the idea. But I put my own spin on it. I talked with Danielle, because as great as her idea looked, I was worried about the goopiness factor of the glitter. She said that yes indeed it was a little thick. She wasn’t kidding! So I’m including her picture on the left and mine on the right and explaining the differences.  For those that know me they KNOW my FAVE colors are purple and green so of course Mardi Gras colors are my favorite colors.

danielle mardi jody mardi

Danielle used Milani Gold Lame as her base coat and topped it with the Color Club Scent-sous Sugar Plum Yum that came out around Christmas. I told her how much I liked these polishes together. She said that irl the gold polish crinkled up under the CC glitter. Gasp! But it still looks really good to me! Idk if she used base coats or top coats.

For my mani I used a base coat of Zoya Anchor. My color base coat is one coat of Sinful Colors This Is It. After drying I put on a coat of SC Frenzy. After drying I applied a coat of SC Call You Later. After letting that all dry I coated with one application of CC Sugar Plum Yum. I tried carefully using the glitter so I could get it over the entire nail and not in little clumps. That was a bit of a challenge. Some places are definitely more dense than others. My final coat is Zoya Armor. I ended up putting two coats of that on. I didn’t use Gelous in between because I didn’t feel these glitters were too bad and didn’t require that extra coat of glitter tamer. I like the little bits of small glitter showing through the big pieces of glitter. What do you think about the two looks of this very similar mani?

class mardi

Since I had a training class today I wanted to enjoy some fun with them for Mardi Gras. So I took a bunch of beads that I bought at Dollar Tree and before we started I threw them out to the group. It was a lot of fun since we spent the first half hour dancing for our cardio and everyone was laughing and happy about getting their beads. I always hand out a small token for each holiday. Last week for Valentine’s Day they got cute little hearts with mazes in them and a little bb that you had to move through the maze. Since most of them are in the group to watch their weight, I don’t usually hand out candy and they really appreciate that I don’t sabotage what they are there for! See the beads on the floor? And maybe you can see some of them still have them on while doing crunches before class ended. I like my fitness classes and training groups to have fun with their workouts. It makes it that much easier to keep up their goals of exercising and getting/staying healthy!

We finished up tonight in a very un-Mardi Gras type restaurant and went to one of our favorite Chinese places. Mom and I were probably a sight with our Mardi Gras beads and colors! I hope you had fun today (and tonight), too. So what did you do to celebrate this last day before Lent, and do you practice this religious tradition?

Baby Baby One More Time … Last Valentine Post

So I’ve showed you all the fun and fabulous gifts that Valentine’s Day 2012 brought my way. Here’s my last one. It will be a quickie. It’s all about my Baby and Me! I LOVE plants with a passion and I’ve turned our patio into a serene oasis where we relax together at night. One of the plants I love are Orchids, and Joe gifts me with a new plant on many special occasions, like Valentine’s Day. This year was no exception and he gave me a beauty to add to my Orchid, Bromeliad, Fern garden. This one also has a couple of other tiny plants that I haven’t looked up yet, so I don’t know if they are a type of orchid, too, or not. Here’s a pic I took when it arrived on Monday, my day off work.

NOW, what do you think I got him? He’s a HUGE Wizard of Oz fan. He knows all the lines to the movie. We watch it every time it’s on (well HE watches it, I usually do other stuff and just peak at it periodically, it’s HIS favorite movie, not mine, haha). I had no idea what to get him. I get him Wizard gifts usually for his birthday. The girls in my groups can tell you the quest I was on last fall. So when I saw one of the girls post ORIGINAL bottles of China Glaze Wizard of Ooh and Ahz bottles up for swap, I thought THAT’S IT! I immediately contacted her and we worked out a pretty sweet deal and I was able to acquire these two bottles for his collection. The only stipulation he told me was – I am NOT going to wear them! I have a man who doesn’t wear polish! But a mani wouldn’t hurt him once in awhile! LOL

So we both feel these are the most eclectic items he has in his Wizard of Oz collection. Would you agree with that?

Secret Valentine Haul

Most of you reading this blog are in at least one of the nail polish or makeup groups that I’m in on the internet or Facebook. A lot of the groups do a secret pal type swap for different holidays. I’ve done Secret Pumpkin, Santa, and just recently Valentine. It’s a lot of fun to plan your gift and also to receive your gift. In one of the groups I’m in I was lucky enough to actually receive the same person to gift both Santa and Valentine gifts to. She’s a sweetheart who lives up in Mooseland, as we all jokingly refer to her Canadian home. Since I’m down here in warm sunny South Florida it is pretty fitting that she should be my secret pal!

On to the fun! Her nickname is Red and I just couldn’t resist the temptation of red for Valentine’s Day. On her card I wrote – I couldn’t remember if they told me to buy all the red polish or all the polish for Red. So I did BOTH! And here’s the box full of red I sent to her (and also included a pink organza bag of rawhide chewy bones for her pooch)! And I gifted her with my reddest polish from SoFlaJo’s Year of the Dragon – Dragon Heart! Yikes, there was one slight casualty, you can see the back bottle on the right with the red top. The lid was not on tight and a little polish leaked out, but she told me it wasn’t much and the bubble wrap contained it all. Whew!

Red's Secret Valentine Pkg   Red's VD DragonHeart

Now on to the Secret Valentine package I received from my group! I was in awe when I opened it. Not only was it full of yummy milk chocolate, which IS my FAVORITE chocolate and/or candy ever, but I also got a lovely blue Sally Hansen HD polish, Spectrum. Purple and blue are two of my favorite colors! My SV knew exactly what she was doing with that one! BUT, she blew me away with a polish I’d never seen before – NOX Twilight Disco Darling. What a gorgeous silver holo glitter! OMG, WHAT do you think I had to do? Hell yeah! Hit the google button looking up that polish line. Big mistake. Now I need them ALLLLLL!!! Ayeyiyi But of course she wasn’t done YET. The pièce de résistance of this gift included TWO MORE amazing items!  A Specialty Valentine Card she had made for me by Sarah Trumbauer Creatives. With an OPI bottle on the front of the card, this gift really touched my heart. I got into nail polish collecting with my attraction to OPI and I’ve never lost that love of my favorite brand! AND the gift that actually brought tears to my eyes when I saw it – a DRAGON phone case for my iPhone! All these gifts touched me so much that someone actually paid attention to my posts and comments in my groups to be able to send me, someone she’s never met in person, everything that I would LOVE!

I hope your Valentine’s Day was as fun as mine was. BECAUSE I’m still NOT done!!! ONE MORE Valentine post. Then I’m going to bed! LOL

A Second Day Late Valentine’s Day Post!

I did a really weird mani for Valentine’s Day. I was hoping it would turn out as I envisioned, but at least it turned out! I wanted to have a really light polish with a GITD design over it that wouldn’t be obviously visible. So I used Essie (which anybody that knows me knows is a brand I hardly ever use and have very few of) Shift Power. It’s a gold barely there polish that I was able to get away with using only 1 coat of! (After applying my favorite base – Zoya Anchor.) Then I used Kiss peel off stencils and the pink Expressions GITD polish I’d picked up last year at Dollar Tree. I painted on hearts and flowers. I topped it with a coat of Dragon Heart from my own Year of the Dragon polish line to keep the GITD from being visible. I wore it for two days. It was fun. I will keep experimenting because I’m sure it could look really nice if I wasn’t in a big hurry. So take a look!

Valentine’s Day – Better Late than ….

I’ve got a few pictures in this one, so sit back and enjoy!

OK so I know. Valentine’s Day was YESTERDAY! But I figured I could post this the day after to make it last as long as possible since, hey, we started celebrating LAST Saturday night anyway! Here’s some pix of our very fun night downtown on Las Olas Blvd. We took Mom with us to dinner and met some good friends of ours from Pennsylvania that live down here in the winter months. Here’s a few pix of all of us and our yummy food! We ate dinner at the Riverside Hotel on the patio. Yes! February 11th and we were sitting outside on the patio well into the night enjoying dinner and entertainment!

Yeah, these are the staged photos. They’d prolly clobber me if I showed the ones of us laughing and … eating! Dontcha just love it when you’ve got a mouthful of food or stupid look on your face and THAT’S the photo your friends tag?!?!

Well as I said, there was entertainment as well. I don’t know his name, but we had a marvelous time listening to his singing and horn playing, and watching his dance moves. From James Brown to BB King, this guy was amazing! We were all dancing in our seats, and a few people were dancing in the entranceway. People walking down the street were even bopping to his music!

From these pictures you can see he really had the moves! 🙂

That’s my first Valentine’s Day Post this year. I’ve got a couple more to goooooo………

ALL ABOUT ABS!

*****************************************************

Here’s your Next Workout ~

Alright – 15 minutes to warm up and get some cardio in – run around the block, do some jumping jacks, dance to your favorite songs – then meet me back here pronto!!!

Grab your Water, a Towel, and 3 to 5 Pound Weights, a Resistance Band and a Mat, and some Rockin’ Music!

Start Now!!!

Today it’s ALL ABOUT ABS!

Lay in a supine position (on your back) on your mat, knees bent, feet and knees together. Grab your heaviest weight by the heads (one hand on either side of the knob) and put it behind your head, about half way up your skull. Keep it there as you do 50 Crunches. If working out is new to you, start with AT LEAST 10 Crunches.

After your first set, AND NO REST IN BETWEEN, pick up your feet and touch your elbow to your opposite knee, kicking your foot out in between, till you’ve done 50 opposing Crunches. Again doing AT LEAST 10 if you are a beginner.

!!!NO BREAKS!!!

Set down the heavy weight and grab the lighter weight. SAME EXERCISE! 50 Crunches with the weight behind your head.

Go on to the next set of exercises of opposite elbows and knees.

!!!NO BREAKS!!!

Set down the weight and put your hands behind your head. SAME EXERCISE! 50 Crunches. Do NOT pull on your head, let it lay back in your hands (like laying on a pillow).

Go on to the next set of exercises of opposite elbows and knees.

NOW you can stretch out your arms and legs, pointing your hands and fingers over your head and lengthening your legs and pointing your toes.

NO MORE THAN 30 SECOND RESTS

Turn over onto your stomach (prone position), lay flat and pull your hands behind your back and grasp your hands together as you count slowly to 20. Release, go into Child’s Pose (sitting on your heels, arms stretched out in front, forehead to the mat).

Repeat this exercise for a total of 3 times!

Turn on your side. Hands behind your head, knees slightly bent. Lift your elbow toward your hip for a count of 25 THEN reach your hand to your ankle as you lift your ankle to your hand for another count of 25. Remember NOT to pull on your head!

Repeat this exercise on your other side.

Back onto your stomach. Stretch out flat again lift yourself with into a plank position, either on your hands and toes, hands and knees (butt DOWN), elbows and toes, or elbows and knees (butt DOWN). Hold for a slow count of 20, up to 60.

Again go into childs pose, sitting on your heels, arms stretched over your head, forehead to the floor.

Repeat this exercise for a total of 3 times.

And ONE MORE TIME on your back!

Knees bent, feet and knees close together, bring your knees up toward your chest as you rock your chest to your knees and knees to your chest for 50 crunches. I call this my dead bug crunch as it looks like a bug curling together to me when you touch them (for those of you that know what pill bugs do!).

Good job, good job, good job! Stretch it out, point those fingers and toes. Suck your abs in and up. Know roll your knees up to your chest, wrap your arms around them and rock side to side a few times. Stop in the center and pull both legs straight up, grab them with your hands and pull them to your face, stretching your back a little more.

Bend your knees, put your feet on the floor, and drop your knees open in a butterfly groin stretch. You can flutter your knees if you’d like. Roll up and sit cross legged. Breathe in deep as you sweep your arms up and blow out as your sweep your arms down. Do this 2 more times as you suck your abs in and up.

Put your right palm on the floor and reach toward the ceiling with your left hand. Hold for a few seconds. Put your left palm on the floor and reach your right hand toward the ceiling and hold for a few seconds. Now reach around to the right, put your hands on your butt and look over your right shoulder. Hold for a few seconds. Switch to the left.

Return to center. Breathe in deep as you sweep your arms up and blow out as your sweep your arms down. Do this 2 more times as you suck your abs in and up. Do not turn your body but look over your right shoulder. Return to center. Look over your left shoulder. Return to center. Drop your right ear to your right shoulder and gently but optionally pull down on it with your right hand. Return to center and repeat on the left.

Deep breath in. Reach to the ceiling. Suck your abs in and up. Repeat 3 times and GIVE ME A HIGH FIVE!!! Great Job! Can’t wait till we do this again. How about you? Havin’ fun yet! 🙂

Updated Shopping Cart & New Year of the Dragon Photos!

**Very Picture Heavy**

I am in awe of the amazing pictures and reviews many of the bloggers have done for my new line of polishes – The Year of the Dragon. Thank you so much to them for everything they have done for me. I will be listing each and every one of them in my posts so you can check out their different takes on and photos of this collection.

But I want to also thank all of the wonderful followers of these talented bloggers and the orders you have been placing. Yes, there have been some glitches with the shopping cart process. PayPal is a really easy payment system, however, getting their codes right has been quite a challenge! Thank you to all of you who have been through this with me. I do think everything is in order now!

So let’s get right to the juicy part of this post! Thank you to Jamie from Nails Adored for putting together this gorgeous website for me! She has been my constant consultant for so many things in this endeavor. I’ve paid her in many bottles of polish, mine included :), which she admits to happily working for, but I don’t feel like this is enough and I’m looking for a way to do something more for her! She was one of the first to break the news about my polishes and her pictures are stunning! She is on my bloglist over there —–>> and I would hope that if you are not already following her, you do so now. She is a talented and trained artist and she’s a whiz at the computer. Obviously I can’t sing her praises enough! And stop blushing Jamie, everyone that knows you feels that way about you!

OK enough mush and gush!

Let’s get on to some fantabulous pictures! All courtesy of Jamie at Nails Adored.

February Julep and Oscar Love!

Today was a good nail mail day. Received my Julep box for February. It’s the only other one I receive from the all the beauty boxes and subscriptions. I am an American Beauty and got a couple of lovely polishes, as well as the cuticle oil I’ve heard others rave about and of course, a Chocolate Oscar!

Now for those that know me, let’s just start out with Chocolate Oscar. I know he’s a phallic symbol, but whoa, I wasn’t expecting this! As a confirmed chocoholic I can’t wait to bite his head off!!! wink, wink

OK being serious, I ripped that cuticle oil box open so fast. And wow, what did I find? A roller ball. I guess I either missed that in other posts or no one mentioned it. I gave it a quick rub over each finger and dropped it promptly in my bag. How awesome is this to have with you whenever your cutes need some help? I’m not dragging a bottle with a brush around with me anytime soon!

The beautiful red polish is Glenn. It is red. What can I say? I love red. The ribbon is red. The filling paper is red. And it’s all tucked inside a beautiful black box. And then there’s Oscar himself. A glittery gold polish that just glistens in this sea of red and black. I haven’t tried either of the polishes yet because they just showed up in my mailbox today. But I can tell you I currently do have Julep Trina on my fingers and toes, topped with my own line of Dragon topcoats – silvery Call Forth Dragons for my mani, and coppery 3 of Pentacles for my pedi. The formulas for Julep are a little thick but hey, I just figure I can make them last longer by dropping in a little thinner when I need to. Other then that, they don’t give me any problems and my current mani is already 3 days old with no chips and a minor tip wearage on one or two heavily used fingers.

Some of you know that my mom lives with us and she loves polish. You have gifted her with several when I’ve done swaps or for Secret Santa or when I’ve bought a polish or two off you. So I bought her a subscription to Julep as well. She is a Classic with a Twist.

Her two polishes included glittery gold Oscar as well (and btw she LOVES chocolate, too), and the greyish Meryl. I personally was disappointed that it wasn’t more silvery as that is what she likes best and I thought this was going to be one she would swoon over. No problem though. I plan on doing a little tampering with it to give it a silver sheen for her. It’s a good base to work with!

She also got the Topcoat for Hair which I think she’s going to like as she’s a hairspray kind of gal! It’s fun to get her stuff like this since she’s 88 years old and still likes to jazz up her looks! I hope I’m still like that when I get to be her age!

We just became Julep Mavens during the December penny promo, and so far they’ve taken very good care of us. I’ve known of them since they started their program and I’ve read a lot of horror stories about them. Here’s hoping they’ve turned over a new leaf in 2012!

Just a quick update to this post. Another Mystery Box from Julep. This one is for Valentine’s Day.  http://www.julep.com/discounts/holidays/valentine-box-of-mystery

January’s Back to Nature MyGlam Glam Bag

I’m not one to subscribe to monthly deals, but I thought the MyGlam subscription might be a pretty good value. At just $10, Michelle Phan of YouTube notoriety, promises something that she actually delivers – products her team of stylists love, for all of us to try.

And I have to say right off the bat with the first product, I certainly agree. I have been using Wen Cleansing Conditioner for several months now. My stepdaughter Samantha turned me onto them last fall. I buy from QVC and get a better deal than buying from their website. Before Christmas it was a TSV so I got to try a wide variety of formulas for a great price. Needless to say I really like the product and my already long, thick, silky blonde hair has gotten even more compliments recently then normal. So if you get the chance to try this product, I’m saying Go For It!!

The Cucumber Facial Peel-Off Mask by Freeman is a lot of fun. I’ve always liked masks that dry on my face and I can peel off like a second skin. Kinda creepy, huh? Well, Halloween IS my favorite holiday! Ok, but I digress. I have seen Freeman products at the drugstores probably my entire life. And I’ve tried many different ones through the years. They are nice. They are inexpensive. And this one worked like other peel off masks I’ve used. I was really hoping for that nice cucumber smell since I love products with that fragrance. And it’s there. So I also give this product a big thumbs up!

On to the Sheercover Duo Concealor. It’s a Light/Medium color so it would work ok with my natural looking South Florida tan. Except that it’s not a product I would normally wear. So I can’t honestly review it and tell you much about it.

OMG I am a nail polish junkie though. I’m not even gonna tell ya how many I own, and how many brands. But THIS was the first bottle by theBalm in my collection. Hot Ticket Nail Polish. Sounds like fun. And maybe they sent me this color since i do live in South Florida. But ummmm well, I’m not really one to wear ORANGE nail polish. Orange You Glad You’re Not Blue. To tell you the truth I am Blue, and I’d rather had Blue. So I suppose I’ll save it for Halloween. Remember, I LOVE that holiday, so maybe you’ll see me sporting it on my nails then!

Last is the soft cloth cosmetic bag everything was attractively packaged in. It’s also thinly lined to repel minor leaks. It’s a cute design with a zippered top. I’m sure I can think of a million things to do with another little bag. I have tons of them because they are so useful. (One day I need to do a post on all of my bags. I take several of them with me grocery shopping, including insulated ones!)

There’s also a nice little postcard included that describes each product and includes pricing. Coupons were included too.

So my verdict, the value is definately beyond the $10 MyGlam took from my credit card, which included the shipping. I’m still in the plan and excited to see what February brings. I did miss out on December, which was their launch. If you haven’t already signed up for this deal, reconsider it! And at this price, NO, I don’t get anything for a referral.

(And that reflective pink bag in the background was the bubble mailer it all came in!)

NEW YOU CHALLENGE – Broward General Hospital, Fort Lauderdale, FL

Today was Day 2 of the New You Challenge at Broward General Hospital in Fort Lauderdale. My team, The Lunch Club, meets twice weekly for 30 minutes of intense cardio and strength training with me at the Wellness Center Gym. We are one of 5 teams in the Challenge and I intend to win this competition!

My team is the largest with 2 girls and 3 guys. Robin is a a real competitor and puts her all into it. Mary Beth has determination and is working hard toward her goals. Don likes to slack if he can get away with it, but that ain’t happening here Buddy! Mike found out the first day of the challenge I’m not gonna let him slide on his strong legs. His upper body is gonna feel the burn! Jim is our ringleader! He’s at the gym in the morning to do cardio on his own and comes back to work with me. And his wife makes him walk with her. This guy is gonna have a healthy heart to go with the kind one he already has!

I really like my team and they all get along great with each other. That’s what’s gonna make them successful and win this competition. Good health is the fountain of youth. And keeping your body fit will allow you to do more things in your life. I’m a firm believer in making the fitness part of it fun so everybody will want to move and do something physical everyday. Whether it’s my classes or my clients, I want them to want to come back to me. Crazy is as crazy does! 🙂

Here’s my team! I love all of them! Robin, Jim, MaryBeth, Mike, Don. Go get ’em gang!

The Year of the Dragon

I’m excited to be celebrating the Chinese New Year honoring The Dragon. I wasn’t born in a year of The Dragon but I believe it is my totem animal. From my dragon tattoo to jewelry, clothing, books, and art pieces, even my Harley is painted with dragons (see my banner above), I see dragons as inspiration and companions protecting me on my life’s journey.

During the 1980s & 90s I owned an herb business in Michigan that I closed to move to South Florida to live on a sailboat I bought. I’m delighted to once again offer my original creations as SoFlaJo, the nickname I have come to be known by since I moved here.  Die-hard customers and friends have continued to request my handcrafted originals for bod and abode. In the upcoming months I will once again be offering my popular soaps, incense, and other highly acclaimed originals.

It is with great pride that I announce the release of my first collection of original nail polishes, an 8-piece collection of sparkling color-changing topcoats fittingly called – The Year of the Dragon. Made from natural pigments and glitters, and bases free of the chemicals Toluene, Formaldehyde and dibutyl phthalate.

These topcoats work best over dark colors. Topcoats are shown over black, purple, blue, and green basecoats. The black is the most dynamic. Remember that these will flash to purple, blue and green, therefore they will not be as noticeable but will make these base color more intense!

All pictures shown have No Topcoat applied!

Glitters are softer to the touch as well.
