Oh My! December GlossyBox Review! (And it’s a GOOD one Mr. Grinch!)
This month I have TWO GlossyBoxes to review! This beauty box subscription service doesn’t put a limit on how many boxes you can purchase and I think that’s fabulous. Even though I only have one subscription, they offered a code for a discounted box this month so I bought a second one because I am so happy with the previous boxes I’ve received. Oh boy, I can tell you this month was NO exception, and I am really glad I sprang for a few extra bucks and got the second box!
So here is what I got in the boxes! They were wrapped in lovely tissue paper with a bow as the box normally is. Candy Canes, Gingerbread Figures, and other holiday designs adorned it and tied with a red ribbon. Four full size products, two sample size, and a lovely piece of jewelry were included. Both boxes contained a necklace but I’ve talked to others that have received other jewelry like stack rings.
The first full size item is an after-bath and shower moisturizer in a blend of essential and all-natural oils – Madurai Jasmine & Mogra by Forest Essentials Luxurious Ayurveda. As you know, I live in South Florida, and the scent of Jasmine wafts in our air several times a year. I absolutely love that fragrance. This blend is reminiscent of it and it’s fabulous. I use a lot of lotion and moisturizer on my face and body already, so this will be put to good use, and since I got TWO of them in my multiple boxes – ooooooo yeah!
I got a “full size” (5.5 oz, enough for one use) Heartland Fragrance Co. bath salts. White Ginger in one box, White Tea in the other. These are made with 100% natural epsom salts with fragrance added (so even though they advertise they are a healing aromatherapy salt, I would have preferred to see them use natural or essential oils as well, instead of fragrance).
Pleats Please is a sample size Eau de Toilette by Issey Miyake. This is a USA Online Exclusive Launch. Yay! It really smells wonderful and I like that it’s in a little spray bottle. The other sample size is Wella Velvet Amplifier. Known for their hair care products, I’m excited to try this. It is a concentrated serum which is supposed to improve manageability and control for responsive styling.
The other full size is a Lipstick Luxe in m.powerment petal by mark. It’s a limited edition creamy rose lipstick that is luminous and hydrating according to their information. Although it was “developed to raise awareness for a powerful women’s cause”, I’m gonna have to look online to find which one, and it’s not really my color.
OK now we’re down to the last two items in the boxes! The ZOYA nail polish, and the jewelry! I got two different Zoya’s, and two different necklaces! That’s exciting because I’ve ordered duplicate boxes from other companies previously and they were identical. Uhhhh boring! When a buyer purchases more than one don’t you think they want a variety since they know you are sending more than one mix?!
So I got Storm in one box and Electra in the other. I haven’t purchased any Zoya in awhile and I didn’t have either of these. OMG can I just say I am thrilled with BOTH of them?! The necklaces are by Jewelmint and “inspired by the runway, vintage jewelry and on-trend celebrity style”. I am very happy with the two pieces I got. One is a silver and goldtone double chain with beads and decorative “plates”. The other is actually a necklace with a pinback that can be worn two different ways. The heart is adorned with red stones with two hummingbirds atop it. I really like both of the pieces a lot! Ok but STOP right there. The above link to Jewelmint will take you to their FAQ page. Yes, they are a monthly membership service that you will have to reply to if you want to skip your monthly item. I am NOT a member and that is NOT a referral link!
OK now you see why I was so pleased with both of my boxes this month. If you’d like to get in on the action, just click on my referral link in the sidebar or here to GlossyBox if you’d like. They have One Month or more subscriptions, and of course the longer you subscribe for, the more the price is reduced. I hope you will like the service as much as I do if you do decide to purchase it.

Tweezerman & Cynthia Rowley
I’ve been seeing nail polishes and nail treatments by Cynthia Rowley in many of the better department stores lately. And now she’s joined forces with brand icon Tweezerman, with the Cynthia Rowley Limited Edition Designer Series collection, exclusively at Sephora.
Tweezerman was kind enough to send me two of the new items and I’m really excited to be able to share them with you. I know you’ve seen me post about Tweezerman before and their fine line of eye beauty products. They also have a manicure line which you may not be aware of. So I’m going to talk to you not only about the new slant tweezer I was sent, but also about the double-sided file (Filemate), both from the new Cynthia Rowley line.
I love the feel of this tweezer and I’m one of those that keeps things like scissors, files, AND tweezers, in all rooms of the house. I have used them for stray hairs, removing splinters, tweezing my brow, (and maybe one you don’t want to admit to – the occasional picking of a flea or tick off my kitty, or maybe your dog). This slant design is easy to use and the colors are beautiful, so this one may be kept in my bathroom cabinet!
I received the cobalt blue and I love the design mixed with the green, white and black. It is also available in a light blue.
The double-sided Filemate comes in a similar pattern to the file I received, but in multiple shades of pinks, white and cobalt blue. The small size snuggles in it’s own slim case to keep it clean and protected, and fits comfortably in a pocket or purse.
These are really fun and functional products Tweezerman and Cynthia Rowley have come up with. I would recommend picking them up for yourself, or as stocking stuffers. Yeah, I think I know what my girls might be getting this year. And I’ve got a nice little Sephora gift card just burning a hole in my pocket!
These products were sent to my by Tweezerman for my honest and impartial review.
November GlossyBox Reveal
I have been so very happy with the subscription box service GlossyBox! I joined them in August when a friend posted a 3-month discount link to them. I was a little on the fence because I’ve seen the contents of some of the other subscription boxes people get from other sources. But I figured 3-months was worth a shot.
WOW – am I ever glad I joined. I just ordered another 3-months with them and this is the box I received this week!
First off they send a mini magazine every month with the products that are included as well as many other trending cosmetic and beauty products. Everything that I’ve gotten has been either full-size or a VERY generous sample size (not little packets, but samples that you can get many uses out of).
This month was a full size Illamasqua Make-up Pencil. The color is Spell and it’s a beautiful pink/coral/red that can be used on the lips or eyes. I’m really big on wearing pink on my eyelids and have several pink eyeliners already, so this is one more to add to that arsenal! It glides on smoothly and really makes a pop on the eyes which for me is a fun way to wear it to work with the next item. I like it! This product is made in the UK.
Kryolan for Glossybox blusher in Glossy Rosewood is also a multi-purpose cosmetic that can be worn on eyes, lips, and cheeks. Again it’s another pink shade, so this one too, will go on my lids. I’ve worn pink and charcoal on my eyes for years. It’s flattering and fun! I like that its matte. I used this with The Balm Matt Batali eye shadow I got in my Ipsy/MyGlam bag a couple months ago. These two are a great combo for me for work. This product is made in Germany.
The last full size item is Incoco Nail Polish Appliques. These real nail polish strips contain, basecoat, color coat, and topcoat in one strip. What a time saver! And they are 3-free – no dbp, toluene, or formaldehyde! The color is Sinderella and another perfect reddish shade I will wear. I’ve never worn nail strips, so I’m pretty excited to try these. They look like they are full enough for anybody’s nail, and since mine are wide and long I think these will work perfectly. 16 double-ended strips are included in each package. This product is also made in Germany.
The Nu-Me Arganics Argan Oil is 10ml and comes in a dark colored bottle with a dropper. I’m already a user of Argan oil so I’m looking forward to trying this brand. This product is made in the USA.
The last item is a “sample” size Skin & Co. Truffle Serum in a .5oz tube. This Hydro-Toning Day Face Serum is non-greasy and soaks rapidly into my face. I like the feel of this one and I like the fragrance which is light coconut (which is one of the extract ingredients). I don’t always like the way serums look or feel on my face but having used it once, I can say that I do like its texture. This product is made in Italy.
Also included are generous discount certificates for Nu-Me and Skin & Co.
If you’re on the fence about this box, you can also try just a one-month subscription. Or if you really want to save, go for the 12-months! That’s what I will be doing when this one expires! There is a link over there —–>; that will take you directly to the site, or you can click here.
Give it a try and let me know what you think. Or if you already subscribe, please let me know how you like the service!

However I am returning to my “roots” and will be releasing original creations and time-tested favorites once again.
Thankfully, Everybody LOVES Nail Polish!
If you’ve been following my blog you know that my mom used to live with us. We did a lot of things together and we had a lot of fun. Last April she had a stroke, and although it didn’t end her ability to speak, it seriously hampered her ability to care for herself. After her stint in rehab was over, and because of her advanced age, we thought it was better for her to stay at the rehab and nursing home. They do an awesome job and I’m sure you’ve seen my pix and videos of her on the SoFlaJo facebook page. She is in better care than I could give her at home, and she is able to socialize in a better setting as well.
So on to the reason for this post! Tuesdays at the nursing home are manicure days! A gal who has come to be a dear friend, and who LOVES her own nails looking blingy, is the one that does the manicures. There is no extra charge for it, it is one of the social events on their very booked social calendar for the residents! The residents gather in one of the designated rooms and it’s like a coffee clache with all of them there! I have had so much fun when I’ve been able to attend. Elainey also will go around to the individual resident’s rooms if they are not capable of coming to the mani gathering.
I asked the Activities Director, Nicole, if I could donate some polishes and maybe makeup. She said “Oh Yes, but the makeup has to be new, not so with the polish.” Aha – did I find a great way to get rid of polishes I either don’t like or didn’t want anymore and didn’t think they were ones anyone would want to swap. BUT, I also gathered together some of my unused makeup and hair supplies because Nicole makes “goodie bags” for the residents for special occasions like birthdays and holidays since many of them don’t have any visitors. And that really makes me sad. I’ve done my best to learn the names of many of the residents, at least the ones who are out socializing. And I can confirm that I don’t see some of them ever have a visitor.
So, during this month of November when we should all be thankful for something, I’m thankful that Mom is still with us and that she is receiving such good care. Maybe you would like to take some time out of your schedule and pop in on a local nursing home with a bag of nail polish and makeup (and I’m sure you’re gonna tell me you’re very busy), but think what it would be like to be all alone with no visitors that come to see you. And not all of the residents are elderly. Many have had accidents or illnesses that have placed them in continued care.
If you are interested in just sending off a care package to my mom’s facility, please feel free to send it to:
Broward Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Attn: Nicole, 1330 South Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316
Remember to be Thankful this month. And Happy Thanksgiving!
Jody
