No I’m not going to Mardi Gras but I love the celebration and the colors. I’ve been on Curacao to celebrate Carnival and in the Big Easy to celebrate Mardi Gras in previous years. But this year I’m just home in little ole’ Fort Lauderdale!
But alas, with Valentine’s Day in just two more days, this one will come off tomorrow! Sigh

I created this polish as a tribute to Catherine Hubbard from Newtown, CT, a sweet little red-haired girl with a love for animals who was just 6 years old when she was killed during the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. She dreamed of opening her own animal shelter and her parents have asked for donations to be made in her memory to The Newtown Animal Center. I Love a Holo
A few months ago I blogged about a swap I had with a lovely Brazilian girl. She sent me some polishes by Ellen Gold that are a lovely holo. I finally wore my first one. I have way too many untried I’m trying to work my way through and thought this would be perfect to go with that gold pedi I just posted about!
In my birthday group I was gifted an Orly polish, Crawford’s Wine. It is beautiful! It was part of the Valentine’s Day Collection a couple of years ago. Since I don’t buy a lot of Orly (my helmer has less than a half drawer full), I don’t follow their releases as well as maybe I should because the ones I’ve gotten as gifts or picked up on sale at Sally are gorgeous and a dream to apply. This one is no exception. I applied one nice coat as my undies over my base. Since I knew I’d be topping it I didn’t necessarily do the best job on the base. 
This is a photo of Ellen Gold Holo Vermelho. It actually is very dull without a topcoat. I used my normal Sally Hansen Clear 110. I wore this mani all week and only had minimal tip wear.
If you get the chance to pick up any of the Ellen Gold holos – go for it. This is a spectacular color, and the only reason I put undies with it was because it’s not a polish I can just go down to the store and pick up if I run out and I don’t want to do that! LOL
Even in the shade it’s a good looking holo! I hope you have the chance to get some of these and try them for yourself.

A Second Day Late Valentine’s Day Post!
I did a really weird mani for Valentine’s Day. I was hoping it would turn out as I envisioned, but at least it turned out! I wanted to have a really light polish with a GITD design over it that wouldn’t be obviously visible. So I used Essie (which anybody that knows me knows is a brand I hardly ever use and have very few of) Shift Power. It’s a gold barely there polish that I was able to get away with using only 1 coat of! (After applying my favorite base – Zoya Anchor.) Then I used Kiss peel off stencils and the pink Expressions GITD polish I’d picked up last year at Dollar Tree. I painted on hearts and flowers. I topped it with a coat of Dragon Heart from my own Year of the Dragon polish line to keep the GITD from being visible. I wore it for two days. It was fun. I will keep experimenting because I’m sure it could look really nice if I wasn’t in a big hurry. So take a look!
