I’ve got to tell you, as if you didn’t already know,
I LOVE Halloween!
Last year I did a couple of Halloween swaps that were so much fun, so I was pretty excited to be involved in FOUR this year! And I got some really great stuff!
From my friend Rachel at Glam Polish in Australia (click her for her blog link btw) I got beautiful Ozotics, Vegemite (which I LOVE thanks to her always sending it to me), a boomerang, a couple of Koala bears, unshelled macadamia nuts (I’ve never seen them that way before) and a Picture Polish Dorothy for my hubby Joe (who collects anything Wizard of Oz)!
She also sent me one of her own handmade polishes! And it is beautiful!
My next swap was with my friend Nikki. She and I go back awhile and she lives near where I used to in Michigan. She is a huge penguin fanatic. Just look at this cute package!
She sent me two Sephora OPI polishes I’d been after as well as the darling black and orange Ty kitty. Also lots of goodies to use in my Halloween party theme!
I swapped as well with a fellow polish maker Kirsten from All That Glitters who sent me four of her fabulous polishes and a Starbucks gift card!
And here’s a really quick and uncleaned up mani because I wanted to see what my favorite one would look like on – Witch Craft!
I also did a Secret Halloween swap. From a nice gal named Andrea I got more polishes – China Glaze and my first Miso - and beauty goodies!
I’m already involved in two Secret Santa swaps as well as two other Christmas swaps. I am looking forward to sharing all those goodies with you next month, too!
Sally Beauty is well known for their clearance sales. But when I shop I usually wait till the big sales when all clearance goes to an additional 50% off. Oh yeah, they had one just last weekend and I picked up way too much stuff, but it was hard to resist when I was paying around $2 a bottle for Orly and China Glaze. It’s quite a savings. And it was old collections that they can’t be bothered with or aren’t made anymore.
So I want to show you a mani I did with two of the colors I picked up from the sale. I really should say a pedi, please don’t squeal if you don’t like toes. I’ll try not to be offensive!
I’ve been finding myself drawn to golden polishes more and more. I spotted Orly Glitz on the sale table and immediately grabbed it. My bottle simply says Glitz, but I think it’s called Glitz & Glamour from the 2010 Holiday collection, while Glitz is from their permanent collection. So I am confused by that one and don’t really know for sure. Just suffice it to say if you come across either – BUY it! This is just one coat of Glitz as my base color.
And the layering polish is China Glaze Electrify from the Hunger Games (nope never read it or saw it) Collection. I love the red and gold glitter in this one. And these two polishes together do not disappoint. My toes look like they glow. Since I’m a South Florida girl and nearly live in open toed shoes, I’ve had a lot of excitement from this combo when people see my toes! I love them together and how they really bring out the bling in each other. I can’t wait to try them as a mani when I have something happening where I really want to draw attention to me! Hahahaha
Hope I didn’t scare you off too bad with a toe picture. If you already own these polishes try putting them together and let me know how you like the combination!
All good things must come to an end. And with summer in full swing it’s time to say good-bye to my Spring Flowers Collection. Bluebelle and Wilde Irish Rose are already in very limited supply and all colors will be gone forever after the end of July.
Orders will be filled first come, first served. Click on my Shop Tab at the top and click on Spring Flowers for ordering. Thank you!
Here’s just a fun mani I did early in the week with China Glaze and Orly Neons (Sun-Kissed – index, Under the Boardwalk – middle, I’m with the Lifeguard – ring, Melt Your Popsicle – pinkie, Splish Splash – thumb). Then applied some of the polishes from the Spring Flowers Collection over them (Buttercup – index, Wilde Irish Rose middle, Fields of Clover – ring, Orange Blossom Special – pinkie, Bluebelle – thumb). Although it’s extremely hard to capture them, BlueBelle and Wild Irish Rose have duo qualities in the right light. (Dewdrop is on my toes over Claire’s (Color Club) Starstuck Cosmic, but I didn’t think you wanted to see that! LOL)
*Posche Anti-fungal Basecoat, Julep Kate as underwear, and Sally Hansen Insta-Dry 110 Clear as Topcoat.
OMG! I’m in a group on Facebook that wanted to have a Water Marble Monday blog today, so of course I thought, why not? I’ve always wanted to try it. Well, Idk if I’ll be trying it again. What a funny and fun time I had, tho. I first tried using polishes that were too shimmery and glittery. Altho they looked great in the water dispersing like they do, they don’t make for a good water marble. At least not till I’m better at it and know what I’m doing. I read a lot of blogs and watched a lot of vids trying to figure out my best plan of attack. I saw China Glaze, Zoya, and Sally Hansen among others mentioned as being good choices. Since I figured I’d be making a mess (and I did), I went with my cheapest option – Sally Hansen. Below are my photos. Please feel free to join me in LMAO!!
I started off here with Shirley Temple from my new Happy Hour Collection.
Then that beautiful little girl met the Monster! hahaha
One suggestion I liked and did was to put cuticle oil on my finger up to my first knuckle and under my nail. It was a quick swipe so it used very little product. I also had a small alcohol wipe I used to wipe each nail just before I took the plunge. The cuticle oil works great! I was able to wipe the polish off with a cotton pad quite easily. The fingers that still have polish on them are ones I didn’t get to fast enough, but the polish came off really quickly with my fave Zoya Remove+. Another tip I learned after I did it is to also put a dab of oil on the stir stick (I used a toothpick). That would probably help IMO!
And the final picture is my Helmer drawer full of Sally Hansen’s I have to chose from!
OK so now that you’ve seen that I can do it, I did get better by the end with my thumb, what do ya think? Would you try it? You know you want to! DO IT!! And here are the group’s Water Marbles!
My friend Chelsea wanted to have a giveaway at her 600 follower milestone. At the time of this post she has 5 more to go! Last week she asked for TWO of my Year of the Dragon polishes to include as one of her prizes. Of course I said yes! She has been so good to me with obtaining my Valentine gift for Joe (see my earlier post of the infamous China Glaze Wizard of Ooh and Ahz collection). And she also reviewed my polish when I first released it. Her nails are so stunning, I actually had to read through the post to believe it was really my polish! HAHAHA
So I’ve showed you all the fun and fabulous gifts that Valentine’s Day 2012 brought my way. Here’s my last one. It will be a quickie. It’s all about my Baby and Me! I LOVE plants with a passion and I’ve turned our patio into a serene oasis where we relax together at night. One of the plants I love are Orchids, and Joe gifts me with a new plant on many special occasions, like Valentine’s Day. This year was no exception and he gave me a beauty to add to my Orchid, Bromeliad, Fern garden. This one also has a couple of other tiny plants that I haven’t looked up yet, so I don’t know if they are a type of orchid, too, or not. Here’s a pic I took when it arrived on Monday, my day off work.
NOW, what do you think I got him? He’s a HUGE Wizard of Oz fan. He knows all the lines to the movie. We watch it every time it’s on (well HE watches it, I usually do other stuff and just peak at it periodically, it’s HIS favorite movie, not mine, haha). I had no idea what to get him. I get him Wizard gifts usually for his birthday. The girls in my groups can tell you the quest I was on last fall. So when I saw one of the girls post ORIGINAL bottles of China Glaze Wizard of Ooh and Ahz bottles up for swap, I thought THAT’S IT! I immediately contacted her and we worked out a pretty sweet deal and I was able to acquire these two bottles for his collection. The only stipulation he told me was – I am NOT going to wear them! I have a man who doesn’t wear polish! But a mani wouldn’t hurt him once in awhile! LOL
So we both feel these are the most eclectic items he has in his Wizard of Oz collection. Would you agree with that?
